CZARNIKOW BIOFUELS
Biofuels is an exciting new part of our business. Czarnikow Biofuels was established in 2005 and is focused upon sugar cane based ethanol; an important co-product to sugar in many parts of the world. The use of bioethanol as a transport fuel dates back to the early 1900s though it was not until Brazil initiated a national fuel ethanol programme (Proalcohol) that ethanol began to achieve wider acceptance. Today it is the development of ethanol blended fuels that offer the best growth potential. Sugar cane is the most effective source of fuel ethanol both in terms of financial cost and life cycle analysis while in the US the corn based ethanol industry will, in the near future, contribute up to 10% of the total gasoline demand of 140 billion gallons contributing to cleaner burning transport fuels, energy diversification and providing growing demand for corn and other feedstocks The creation of Czarnikow Biofuels is a natural step in the evolution of our business. It consolidates Czarnikow’s earlier activity in ethanol and creates the platform from which we can offer market services including the trade, finance, risk management and shipment of ethanol to producers and consumers.
